After Miggy Cabrera’s mammoth dinger that would still be going in any other ballpark and Placido Polanco’s rare 3 run shot the Tigers looked as if they were still rolling. With Verlander on the mound it seemed like a sure W. But then the Tigers left 11 runners including squandering a bases loaded 1 out situation in the 5th and couldn’t add on any more runs. Verlander didn’t bring his best stuff but still deserved to win handing the bullpen a 1 run lead in the 6th. Zach Miner came in and held strong but Joel Zumaya couldn’t find the strike zone in the eighth and it cost them as Miguel Tejada continues his ritual of killing the Tigers with the game winning sac fly in the eighth. Tough loss snapping a seven game winning streak but the team played well just couldn’t finish the job.
Boy that was a bashing. Tigers sweep the Rangers 3 straight to jump to 10-13 and they are rolling. They outscored the Rangers 37-10 in the three game set and Granderson came back to finally lead off this potent lineup. Granderson homered in just his second game today and Maggs went deep twice continuing his torrid pace. Good Sweep and the Tigers get LA Angels next at home before heading to New York for three with the Yanks. I ll be back in a bit to talk about the weekend.
The Tigers did what I felt they had to do, achieve a winning record for this past week. In 8 games they went 5-3 including a split in a 4 game set in Toronto. I think they did a great job and Armando Glaragga had his second stellar spot start shutting the Jays out through 5 1/3. The offense came around and they notched win number 7 on the season. The Tigers are finally back home and they have a six game homestand before heading to NY and their last visit to Yankee Stadium (Which I will be attending). I ll post tomorrow my outlook and thoughts on the upcoming week.
For the first entry of the season I am going to act like that pitiful start never happened even though it did. They seem to be on the right track now and they have won 4 out of 5 including two wins over the Twins, one on the Tribe, and one on the Jays. I feel they can call this little roadtrip success if they can just pick up one more win in Toronto to split the four gamer.
Robertson goes tomorrow followed by Galaragga on Monday in place of the D-Train who is still on the DL. Good News: Granderson should be back in the lineup Monday or Tuesday vs. the Rangers.
They seem to be righting the ship Offensively if only they can get consistent starts but the pitching should come around. Ill be back Sunday night or monday Morning whenever I get back on.
