Well that was brutal. Alfredo Figaro didn’t fare to well in his second career start and the offense was dead silent as the Astros defeated the Tigers 8-1 Sat night. This one was rough from the beginning when Michael Bourn lead off the game with a bunt single. The Tigers had no answer for Felipe Paulino striking out what seemed like 100 times managing only three hits, one of which was a Ramon Santiago solo shot in the third inning. I am very happy Miguel “Purjury” Tejada is in the National League because the Tigers simply cannot get him out.
Bright Points: 1. Alfredo Figaro did actually pitch well enough to win save for the 5 run third inning. He only allowed one run in his last three innings which was a good response even though the game was already over.
2. Ramon Santiago continues his rare surge of power belting his 6th homer of the season to then cut a 2-0 lead in half.
3. The Minnesota Twins were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3 so the Tigers maintain a
4 game lead in the American League Central.
On Deck: Tigers @ Astros June 27 2:05 ET
Edwin Jackson (6-4) vs. Russ Ortiz (3-3)
Hopefully the Tigers salvage a win in this series tomorrow to get some momentum heading to the west coast. I’ll have thoughts about the current road swing and preview tomorrows game tomorrow morning.
